Points in Space

Our topic is "Points in Space". More specifically, "centerpoints" in space. When you start working with geometric shapes, like boxes and cones, you will find that VRML viewers calculate the outer shape of the objects from it's centerpoint, not an edge or a corner. If you put a 2" box in space and then put a second 2" box on top of it, you probably think of them as connecting at the point they touch, which is the top of the first box and the bottom of the second box. In virtual reality, you locate the centerpoint of the second box, which is 1" from the surface, at a distance of 2" from the centerpoint of the first box.

If any of this is confusing, don't worry about it. It will all come together as you move along. I mention this concept only to forewarn you of it's existance. In a few lessons from now, you will want to locate two, or more, objects in your virtual world and then all of this will become obvious. You will say "Hey! This is like what we were discussing in "Points in Space"!!".

I am glad you are here. Stay and have fun!!
